Day 4...

Day 4... so far so good on my 30-day challenge!  I have not checked Facebook or my texts for FOUR WHOLE DAYS!

Unfortunately, I can't say that my eyes have not seen a (turned on) TV in the last 4 days.  I spent the weekend at my friends' house, and on Sunday morning they had the TV turned on.  What I CAN truthfully say is that I did not watch it.  It was Real Housewives of something or other... not really my kind of television.

So, regarding my experiment, I have been hearing a lot of opinions about it.   Most people think I am crazy... after all, why would I voluntarily give up things that make my life easier or keep me more social?

I can't say I agree with those opinions completely.  Sure, texting does make my life easier... SOMETIMES.  But... there are plenty of times when you need to know something right away - so you text someone a question; then comes the waiting game.  You don't know if they got your text message, whether or not they heard the message 'ding' or maybe they are driving and can't answer.  It could turn into hours before you hear anything back.  Other times, you are having a back and forth conversation via text that could have been done a lot quicker on a 5-minute phone call.  So yes, there are times when a quick text is helpful and convenient... but there are just as many times when a phone call would be more appropriate and much more convenient.  And as far as Facebook goes... I still say it is mostly a time waster.  A delicious, thoroughly entertaining time waster.  I must admit, however, that it is a fantastic way to feel connected to your family and close friends if you live far away from everyone (as I do).

In these 4 days without my 3 favorite time wasters, I can't say that I got a lot accomplished.  I haven't started my novel, I haven't started my video project, I read one book so far (and I'm halfway done on another one).  What I have been doing is cooking (instead of heating a microwave meal)... buying groceries (real meats and fruits and vegetables instead of Swansons or Marie Callenders), tidying up at the end of each day (instead of keeping everything messy until the weekend), and completing little things that needed to be done around the apartment.  I started making a fantastic smoothie for my breakfasts (I will have to tell you guys more about this smoothie another day - it is fantastic!), and while I haven't started my yoga yet, I have been doing some stretching.  I've also been going to bed at a reasonable hour.  See, what I figure is, this is just my start.  I have to eat and feel healthy before I get up all my brain energy to start writing my book.  At least, this is how I hope it will go.  I didn't quit TV, texting and Facebook just to cook (delicious) dinners!

Anyway, I was trying to keep this short because I still have a lot to do still before I go to bed, so I am going to say adios for now.
